When I got pregnant with my first daughter, I found out how little I actually knew about the company I'd joined.
There wasn't really an HR department. I got pushback for doctor's appointments. I was told I could use two weeks of my own vacation to recover after giving birth. Later I found out I was legally entitled to more.
None of that was visible when I accepted the job. The offer letter told me what I'd be paid. It didn't tell me what working there would actually be like.
So I built Perks.
