Paid trainingCadets are paid at a $67,000 a year rate during roughly eight months of academy training (Monday to Friday, 7am-4pm, not residential), then $78,627 on graduation, followed by a 12-week field training programme. Health, dental and retirement benefits start on day one of the academy.
PensionAustin Police Retirement System. Pension at a minimum of 25 years of service and age 50; benefit is years of service x a 2.5% multiplier of base salary, with no maximum cap (25 years = 62.5%, 30 years = 75%).
Shift differential$3,600 to $4,200 a year for evening or night shifts, paid in 12 monthly installments.
