San Francisco, CA · founded 2012
Chime is a consumer neobank that people generally like working at — competitive pay (reviewers put base around the 75th percentile), solid culture and work-life-balance scores, and days that rarely run past nine hours. But a recent four-day return-to-office push at the 101 California Street headquarters frustrated a lot of folks, and the post-IPO chapter carries a familiar "used to be great" undertone: some benefits trimmed, more management layers, stock jitters. The loudest complaint is internal politics — promotions feel relationship- and visibility-driven rather than merit-based, and "constant alignment" meetings are said to kill momentum. Strong comp and relative stability against peers; just be ready to navigate the politics.
