Cloudflare

San Francisco, CA · founded 2009

Cloudflare draws mission-minded engineers — it genuinely believes in a better, more private internet, and reviewers consistently praise smart, helpful colleagues and interesting infrastructure problems. But temper expectations on the money and the management: there's no 401(k) match (a long-standing gripe), raises are described as small, and management quality is inconsistent enough that your team and manager largely determine your experience. The bigger recent shadow is a May 2026 layoff of about 1,100 people — roughly 20% of the company — announced in the same quarter it posted record revenue, with the CEO tying the cuts to internal AI adoption and targeting 'measurer' roles in finance, legal, audit and middle management. On the better side, it's strong for early-career folks (a real mentored internship/new-grad program) and for inclusion — 17 ERGs with ~85% participation, women about 30% of staff and ~26% of leadership. A good place for a mission-driven builder; go in clear-eyed about comp and post-layoff nerves.
