Confluent was founded in 2014 by Jay Kreps, Jun Rao and Neha Narkhede — the LinkedIn engineers who created Apache Kafka — and built the commercial data-streaming platform ('set data in motion') around that open-source project from an 899 West Evelyn HQ in Mountain View. The big thing to know before you sign in 2026: Confluent has been acquired by IBM, and its own job postings now describe it as 'an IBM subsidiary which has been acquired by IBM and will be integrated into the IBM organization' — so the independent Confluent benefits and culture you may have heard about are actively in transition. Employee reviews still describe strong career development, competitive pay and a fully remote-friendly setup, though some longer-tenured people say the culture cooled after 2022 with more internal politics in decisions.
