Databricks is a pre-IPO rocket ship, and it feels like one: the pay is exceptional (big RSU grants with yearly refreshers against a soaring private valuation), the colleagues are genuinely brilliant, and you'll touch the frontier of data and AI. The trade is intensity — this is a high-urgency, long-hours place where work-life balance is the most common complaint and the pace rarely lets up. It's built by distributed-systems researchers out of Berkeley's AMPLab, so engineering is rigorous and a bit academic at the top, while the go-to-market side is aggressive and sales-driven. Management quality swings hard by team, so who you report to matters more than the logo. Come for the money, the talent and the resume; don't come expecting calm, and if you're a parent, ask pointed questions about hours before you sign.
