HackerOne is the company that made bug bounties mainstream: it runs the platform where organizations invite vetted ethical hackers to find and report security vulnerabilities, and it has paid out hundreds of millions in bounties to that researcher community. Founded in 2012 in San Francisco by Dutch hackers Michiel Prins and Jobert Abma with Alex Rice and Merijn Terheggen, its customers include the U.S. Department of Defense, Google, Microsoft, PayPal, GitHub, Goldman Sachs and Shopify. Under CEO Kara Sprague the company has pivoted hard toward AI, building an AI security agent ('Hai') and hiring heavily for Applied-AI engineering. It is a distributed, flexible-work employer rather than a campus culture; current US roles are hybrid (one onsite day near an office) or remote, and notably do not offer visa sponsorship.
