San Francisco, CA · founded 2012
Instacart is a fully remote-first company now (they call it 'Flex First' — no office mandate, travel paid for occasional 'Team Jams'), which makes it genuinely flexible and workable for parents and people outside the Bay. It runs on data: strong experimentation culture, and if you like being metrics-driven you'll fit. The harder truths are that the corporate side is much smaller than the shopper network suggests (~3,600 employees), the post-IPO stock has been a letdown, and there have been reorgs and corporate layoffs as the company leans into ads and enterprise. Career growth and promotions are heavily team-dependent and can bottleneck, and management scores are middling. It's a calmer, more autonomous place than a Databricks or Uber, but it's a company still figuring out its second act, so weigh the equity story carefully.
