Kickstarter is mission-first and genuinely different: a Public Benefit Corporation with a real, respected union (Kickstarter United, the first at a major tech company) that employees credit with 'having their backs.' Culture rates well (~4.1/5, a four-day workweek, remote-friendly, visibly queer and inclusive) and people find the work meaningful. The shadow over it is 2020, when the company laid off roughly 40-50% of staff amid a bruising union fight, a wound the union grew out of. It sold its landmark Greenpoint pencil-factory headquarters in 2025 and now operates remote-first, and career growth is the weaker dimension.
