Kraken is one of the oldest US crypto exchanges (founded 2011), now trading crypto, stocks, futures and ETFs. It runs remote-first with 'work from anywhere' and pays salary optionally in crypto. The culture is deliberately libertarian and blunt: in 2022 founder Jesse Powell published a 'culture document' that discouraged preferred-pronoun use and told employees they could not label colleagues' comments 'toxic, hateful, or racist,' offering four months' severance to anyone who disagreed. Expect high autonomy and volatility, including significant layoffs in November 2022 (~30%) and October 2024 (~15%).
