Paid trainingSix months at the LAPD Academy. Training is free and recruits are paid their full starting salary from the first day of the academy.
No experience neededHigh school graduation, a GED or equivalent, or a California High School Proficiency Examination certificate is required; a two- or four-year degree may be substituted.
Schedule protectionFlexible schedules in many patrol and special assignment units: three 12-hour days or four 10-hour days, same total hours with more consecutive days off.

PensionLAFPP Tier 6 defined-benefit pension (all sworn hired since 1 July 2011). 40% of final average salary at 20 years of service, rising to a maximum of 90% at 33 years; eligible to retire at age 50 with 20 years. Members contribute 11% of pre-tax pay and do NOT earn Social Security credit.
