Ouster

San Francisco, CA · founded 2015

Ouster is a San Francisco deep-tech company that designs digital 3D lidar sensors for robotics, industrial automation, autonomous vehicles, and security. Founded in 2015 out of Stanford, it went public on Nasdaq (OUST) via SPAC in 2021 and merged with rival Velodyne Lidar in 2023. Expect a hardware-and-manufacturing engineering culture that is fairly onsite in SF. The honest caveat: it is a small public company that has been through repeated restructuring, and employee reviews cite a cycle of hiring and layoffs plus a depressed stock price weighing on morale.
