It was founded in 2011 in Redwood City by Manish Chandra and team (famously starting in his garage) and built a culture around people-first values, including one literally named 'Embrace Your Weirdness.' Honest caveats: it was acquired by South Korea's Naver Corporation in January 2023 for $1.2B and now operates as a Naver subsidiary, and founder-CEO Manish Chandra stepped back in 2025 — so the independent-startup era is over.
