QuantumScape is a deep-tech battery company in San Jose building next-generation solid-state, lithium-metal cells aimed at electric vehicles. It is a high-risk, high-prestige engineering bet: backed by Volkswagen and Bill Gates, it went public via SPAC in 2020 and at one point out-valued Ford while pre-revenue and without a commercial product.
