Salesforce

San Francisco, CA · founded 1999

Salesforce sells itself on 'Ohana' — family, philanthropy, the 1-1-1 model — and some of that is real: the benefits are genuinely excellent, there's an onsite childcare center, and work-life balance is better than most big tech. But it is a very large, very political company, and your day-to-day depends almost entirely on which org and which manager you land under. Expect layers of process, frequent reorgs, and recurring layoffs (a ~10% cut in 2023 and quieter rounds since), plus a hard top-down feel set by Benioff and a real return-to-office push. Sales roles are quota-driven and stressful; engineering and program roles are calmer. For women and parents it's one of the safer large employers — strong ERGs, real family benefits, a childcare center — but temper the marketing: it's a big corporation, not a family.
