| How healthcare is paid for | Healthcare is funded by the Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia (NFZ) through a compulsory health contribution (skladka zdrowotna) of 9% of the assessment base, deducted from pay for employees and paid by the insured person directly if self-employed; the minimum monthly contribution for entrepreneurs is PLN 432.54 from February 2026, being 9% of the minimum wage of PLN 4,806 (2026). Insured patients register with a primary-care practice (POZ) by filing a deklaracja wyboru naming a doctor, nurse and midwife; treatment in the NFZ network is free at the point of use, but waiting lists for specialists and planned procedures are long, which sustains a large private and employer-paid insurance market alongside the public system. Changing your POZ doctor, nurse or midwife is free twice per calendar year; each further change costs PLN 80. (Kodeks pracy art. 154) |
| IVF cycles the state covers | Poland's government IVF programme was restored from 1 June 2024 after being cancelled in 2016, and runs to 31 December 2028 with a budget of PLN 2.5 billion (PLN 500 million a year, raised to PLN 600 million in 2025 and PLN 700 million planned for 2026). It funds up to 6 fertilisation procedures per couple: 4 cycles using the couple's own gametes, 2 with donor gametes, and up to 6 with embryo adoption, plus qualification visits, tests, medication, psychological consultation and embryo storage for up to 3 years. Age limits: the woman must be under 42 when using her own eggs, and under 45 for donor eggs or for transfer of a frozen embryo; the man must be under 55. Couples must be married or in a stable partnership and have documented infertility of at least 12 months. (Kodeks pracy art. 154) |
| Adult dental cover | Adult dental care is partly covered by the NFZ, free at the point of use for anyone with health insurance, but the guaranteed basket is narrow. Covered: an annual dental examination with oral-hygiene instruction plus up to three check-ups a year, one scaling (tartar removal) a year, up to 2 intraoral X-rays a year (panoramic when medically justified), white composite fillings in all teeth, therapeutic dressings, extractions including surgical removal of impacted and wisdom teeth, cyst removal, wound suturing, jaw fracture and dislocation care, gum-disease treatment (closed and open curettage), and all local anaesthesia. Prosthetics are limited: a complete denture once every 5 years for edentulous patients, a partial denture once every 5 years for patients missing 5 or more teeth, and a denture repair with impression once every 2 years. Not covered for adults: root canal treatment on back teeth (free only on front teeth, from incisors to canines; children under 18 and pregnant and postpartum women get all teeth), implants and cosmetic procedures.
