Skydio is the leading U.S. drone maker and a world leader in autonomous flight, founded in 2014 by MIT-trained engineers. Its autonomous flying robots are used in public safety (drone-as-first-responder), defense, energy-grid and bridge inspection, and mapping — and as of late 2024 military/defense customers are more than half the business. Expect a hard-robotics, mission-driven, national-security-adjacent culture at a well-funded scale-up ($2.2B+ valuation). The honest caveats: it is explicitly office-centric (they build physical hardware and want people together), the pace is intense, and the heavy defense focus won't suit everyone.
