Stainless was a New York developer-tools startup (founded in early 2022) that built a platform for high-quality, easy-to-use APIs — generating SDKs, documentation and MCP servers from OpenAPI specs, and by its own account used by roughly a quarter of the world's professional software developers. The decisive fact for any job-seeker: on 2026-05-15 it announced it is joining Anthropic and winding down all hosted Stainless products, so it no longer operates as an independent employer with its own benefits. Per its company site it was founded by Alex Rattray (CEO) and Mark McGranaghan (president), and was backed by Sequoia and dozens of (ex-)Stripe engineers and executives.
