Taskrabbit

San Francisco, CA · founded 2008

Taskrabbit is an online marketplace that matches freelance local labor ('Taskers') with people who need help with errands, furniture assembly, moving, delivery and handyman work. Founded in 2008 in Boston by Leah Solivan (originally 'RunMyErrand') after she needed dog food and had no time to get it, it was acquired by an IKEA affiliate in 2017 and is now a woman-led, hybrid company of roughly 450 employees operating across nine countries. Being IKEA-owned shapes the culture and the perks (furniture-assembly integration, an IKEA employee discount), and the marketplace's own gig-labor model is worth understanding before you join a company whose product is contingent work.
