New York, NY · founded 2015
Timescale (rebranded Tiger Data in 2025) builds PostgreSQL-based data infrastructure — extending Postgres for time-series, real-time analytics, and vector search. Founded in 2015 by Ajay Kulkarni (CEO) and Mike Freedman (CTO), it is a remote-first, engineering-led, open-source-at-the-core company that works across time zones and leans heavily async. The upside: flexible PTO, August Fridays off, an end-of-year shutdown, and 12 weeks fully paid parental leave. The caveat: it is a mid-stage venture-backed database company (Series C, $110M led by Tiger Global), so expect startup pace and equity in the form of options rather than the deep, quantified benefits of a large employer.
